SEO by RSS
The most powerful optimisation method! SEO professionals talk about RSS as a means of reading news or missives within a genre. But we can better use the revolution of RSS by properly structuring our sites with deep links to every appropriate page, then submitting to RSS-only sites. Those sites will then provide us something beautiful. Ready? One link to our home page and one link for every subsequent/supplemental page on our site. How elegant, how effective!
View an RSS output as a microcosm of your site, in the heading put a reference to your actual site encouraging the viewer to visit - provide a rich anchor text version of a link to it - then do the same for each page of your site. The work level is minimal - it's almost always database driven, so find a field or reference to vary for each page. The effect is a testament to the miracle of leverage, the effect we have for external sites linking to our site is quite incredible when we take the time to submit appropriately. It doesn't have the weight of a set of on-theme sites with good PR linking to us - but comes remarkably close. For a good SEO, RSS is not just to read or display content to other sites - it's a means of linking which appears to have been missed in the search optimising industry.
If you would like to see an outstanding example of the kind of thing that can be accomplished through this type of RSS - see this entreprising chess store that has an entire one page micro site of it's products, which another site has syndicated. If you search for various terms, you can also see that several RSS-only sites have also syndicated the feed, thus providing an amazing selection of backlinks not just to the home page of the site, but also to every product page. An example of the RSS-only site that syndicates the content is this RSS site. Now we're not saying that the search engines see this type of link structure and are bowled over - it's just another link. But that's it - another link, but a link to each product page of your site. It's tedious to submit to RSS sites, they are significantly worse than normal directories, there is much wasted time - but if just a few RSS sites syndicate the content after a days work in submitting - it's worth while. In two months time, resubmit to all the RSS sites on your list (search for RSS sites), you'll get another round of links. If you come across a good RSS site with good page rank, persevere. Email the webmaster or submission gardian with a polite message requesting acceptance of the feed - results can be attained this way.
