Last week saw the release of Google's Panda update in the UK, and the cries and debate which followed. There are numerous reports of high ranking websites getting pushed back in the search results. Ciao.co.uk, PC Advisor, Tech Radar to name a few.

Google insists that this change will only help consumers get to relevant content more easily. And of course as usual the details of what has changed remains a secret by Google.

This does beg an important question however, which has been asked to us by many of our customers. How does it impact SEO companies? How do they cope-up with chasing a moving goal-post, and still help businesses improve their ranking?

The answer really lies in basic principle of SEO. Increase the relevance of your website for target keywords, and the Search Engines will find you. Since Top-Results never get engaged with so called 'content-farms', which are the prime reasons of changes at Google, all our customers experienced very modest changes in their rankings. We only advice and help our clients for following key principles. These are the core principles of Google and increasingly many other Search Engines like Bing and altavista:

1. Content, Content and .... - Have unique content on your website, not copied from already published material. This should be relevant to your general site's theme, and must form interesting reading.

2. Keywords density - It is always a difficult one. How much is right. Too few keywords mean SEs will not be able to relate to the amount of searches. At the same time stuffing the page with same words can also discourage SEs from bringing up your site. As a general rule of thumb, keyword density should be between 5% and 15%. Anything outside the range would raise alarm bells.

3. Backlinks - We can't talk about SEO without talking about backlinks. These remain an important aspect of SEO. However like other good SEOs, we only use manual backlinking and only with sites which are relevant to your business and keyword themes.

4. General tidyness - Good old rule of making sure that the website is free of any technical errors.

To summarise, as long as businesses and SEOs stick with plain basic principles of optimisations, no Panda or Tiger or any other mammal can impact your site negatively.
